Things to do near the Delaware River in Spring

The Delaware River is a just such a magical work of nature and this quote sums it up nicely. There are a a multitude of things to do on the Delaware River in Spring.  The mighty Delaware River: It is a sight to behold and loved all who have the opportunity. There are many ways to take in the river’s magnificence and beauty and the Bridgeton House on the Delaware with its picturesque river views is the perfect landing spot to enjoy your exploration of Mother Nature’s prized work of art. Springtime is the ideal time for River adventures.  The staff of Bridgeton House invite you to peruse this list of special activities they enjoy in and around Upper Black Eddy and invite you to share any wonderful or secret outings you explore during your visit.

A few of our favorite ways to enjoy the Delaware River & Bucks County during your Spring visit to Bridgeton House:

1.  Take a Joy Ride: We recommend the River Towns (River Road) or the Covered Bridge/Creek Ride.
2. History & Health: Enjoy a River Town tour by bike with Bear Bicycle Touring Company – including a lunch overlooking the river!
3. Venture inland a bit from the river to visit Black River Farms Vineyard & Winery.
4. Fish the peaceful waters with your guide – try Mickey’s Guide Service, New Hope, PA.
5. Take a PEEP^® into Spring Fun at Peddler’s Village.
6. Relax on your private riverside porch/deck and take in the view… oh so peaceful.
7. Follow the Bucks County Wine & Art Trail & score a box of first edition fine art note cards.
8. Under the full moon you will love watching the twinkling of the moon rays as the full moon rises over the river. Come enjoy the Worm Moon on March 25th, 2024,  the Pink Moon on April 23rd, 2024 or the Flower Moon on May 23rd, 2024. If you can’t make the exact dates, no worries, a few days before and after offer some amazing moon rises too.
9. Ride the Rails: We recommend the Grapevine Express or the Speakeasy Train.
10. Go Fish – you can fish right from the Bridgeton House dock (which goes into place around May 15th) or from the shores of the river just down our stairs. The river is outstanding for small mouth bass and a wide range of other species including stripers, shad, tiger musky, large mouth bass, catfish and walleye. The shad will be running in April!
11. While sipping wine on our riverside terraces, choose a bottle from one of our favorite local vineyards.
12. Bring your own bike – The 60-mile long Delaware Canal towpath, just steps from our front door, is a National Recreation Trail. Once trod by mule teams pulling boats along the canal, the towpath is used today by bicyclists who enjoy a leisurely ride while taking in the views.
13. Rejoice in the aesthetic beauty and charm of objects of curiosity at Vampa, PA’s only museum of vampires and paranormal activity.
14. Stroll across the bridge at sunset – one of our favorite places to photograph sunsets on the river.
15. Catch a show – Enjoy a show at “America’s favorite playhouse.” After the show, imbibe at the Riverview Cafe.
16. Revel in an “above the trees, bird’s eye view” – climb the stairs rising 125 feet in the air atop Bowman’s Hill to enjoy a 14 mile view of the river and surrounding countryside.
17. Roaming along the river banks – enjoy some quiet solitude or stop by the Homestead General Store for a beverage and light snack.
18. Take a scenic drive – Enjoy the view from the comfort of your car. The 38 mile section of River Road that encompasses the area between New Hope and Upper Black Eddy, Pa is listed as one Pennsylvania’s “Best Scenic Drives”
19. Wine Tasting – Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna, PA offers a wonderful panoramic river view from their Castle.
20. While away the afternoon in bed and watch the river float by from your riverside room at Bridgeton House on the Delaware – Bucks County’s only Riverside Inn.
21. Have bikes, kayaks or paddle boards delivered to you right here at Bridgeton Hosue.
22. Take in a show or exhibit at the ArtYard.
23. Go out to eat: the area is filled with many amazing restaurants including some new additions: Finnbar, National Hotel & Chez Daniel. And if you are here on the weekend or a Sunday, Canal House Station and Honeymoon Bakery & Pizzera are a must!
